If you say “London,” the odds are good that everyone knows that you are speaking about the capital of England. London is actually so famous, that it makes up the majority of tourism that is directed to the United Kingdom. Of course, it is hard to forego the many national treasures and monuments that are found within the city limits. Consider the Tower of London which has held a rather dark piece of British history, or the London Eye which graces the southern bank of the Thames.

Of course, there are some attractions about London that are not as easily recognizable as touristy places. Take for example the London Underground which is the major railway system in London yet at the same time also quite possibly the oldest underground system in the world.

Other attractions include the London Stock Exchange, the museum dedicated to the great fire of London, and of course the many smaller plaques that commemorate the towers of London. Since the latter are blighted with so much of the crueler history of England in general and London in particular, several monuments have been set up in remembrance of the atrocities committed there.

Of course London, England, is well known the world over for the London free press, its yellow journalism, the London Times and also the interesting weather patterns. Did you know that Londoners will leave home with an umbrella even if the sun is shining? The weather is so unpredictable that even a blue sky is no guarantee against rain showers. The London fog is so famous that it has made an appearance in a large number of mystery novels and is synonymous with intrigue, murder, and mayhem – at least in the pages of countless books.

As you round out your visit to the London hotels make sure that you find out the name of the London caterers who are responsible for preparing the various food offerings you are enjoying. Culinary speaking, England is working hard to change its image and more and more gourmets are appreciatively mentioning the chefs in their publications.
