Maine (ME)
Maine (ME) is well known for its untouched forests, a coastline that inspired many a poem, and the distinction for having been dubbed the “Pine Tree State.” Home to the University of Maine and the University of Southern Maine, this picturesque state delights in the fact that it still adds some spice to the otherwise placidly settled land disputes in the world. The state of Maine – and by extension the United States – claim Machias Seal Island as US territory, while Canada makes a similar claim for itself. Maine (ME) is also known for its cold winter temperatures which oftentimes make it hard to enjoy the jagged coastlines during the winter months. For this reason, the tourism industry experiences a noticeable dip during the winter months and many seasonal jobs in Maine are directly tied to the presence of tourists. Lodging in Maine can be as touristy as you like, but many visitors still enjoy the charm that the Portland, Maine, bed and breakfasts have to offer them. |

Maine (ME) has been honored by having four ships of the United States Navy christened with the moniker “USS Maine.” An odd little aside makes it clear that Maine has a sense of humor: did you know that it is known as the foremost exporter of toothpicks? Who would have thought?
For those who come to visit Maine (ME), it is not at all surprising that there are so many tourists who fall in love with the countryside and who do not mind braving the harsh winters. This makes it not surprising that Maine real estate newspapers advertise available homes via the “land for sale maps of Maine.” Maine land may be purchased in several areas specifically zoned for residential building, and some of them are even located in the forested areas of the state. As you can see, Maine (ME) is a wonderful place to visit as well as live, volunteer at the humane society of Maine, or even buy a Maine state lottery ticket. Tourism locations allow you to experience the state either at your leisure or with a bit more challenging offerings, such as fishing trips and rock climbing outing. Catch a landlocked salmon, smell the sweet fragrance of the white pinecone, and eat some wild blueberries - you will be glad that you put this amazing state on your map of areas to visit. What are you waiting for? Are you game? |
