New Hampshire (NH)
New Hampshire (NH) is a rather small state located in what is commonly referred to as New England. Yet in spite of it diminutive size, the state of New Hampshire packs a powerful punch when it comes to politics. Known as the Granite State, it makes its unmistakable mark on the now almost legendary New Hampshire primary. This political event has contenders for the party nod travel from far and wide in an effort to become a well-funded and recognized contestant for the seat of the President, and lodging in New Hampshire during this time period is next to impossible to find. Pundits, aides, politicians, staff, and the whole host of those who champion one contender over another eager scour the map of New Hampshire to find those perfect hotels in New Hampshire where they will be able to set up shop, plan and write speeches, practice their appearances – all the while appearing as casual and calm as the average New Hampshire tourism aficionado. |

New Hampshire (NH) has become the major battle ground in the run for the White House and yet many contenders and even other states are attempting to topple colonial New Hampshire from its lofty pedestal. What makes this race so unpredictable is the fact that delegates are voted on via the popular vote, circumnavigating the delegation votes. In a city that is forged by the thought processes of higher learning, such as the University of New Hampshire, as well as the ideas of the average citizen – as she or he may be found at the mall of New Hampshire – candidates will do more than simply look handsome and talk a good game. From television sets at inns in New Hampshire to cartoons placed in the editorial pages of the New Hampshire newspapers, every move is scrutinized, and every action and reaction is gauged.
Thus, New Hampshire (NH) has been recognized throughout the United States as being the state that puts candidates on the map. New Hampshire is also known – by default – as the state that dashes the hopes and aspirations of otherwise worthy candidates. While liberals have decried New Hampshire (NH) as a white state, the New Hampshire state census map and New Hampshire real estate listings lend some credence to the claim; however, the voting rolls of New Hampshire (NH) show that this former colony of New Hampshire is made up in large part of independent voters, which gives this state the power to vote anyone and everyone who is able to persuade the people, not simply the pretty boys that are paraded about in partisan fashion. |
