Spain
Spain is one of the most often visited countries in Europe. Well known for its wealth of monuments, touchable history, and lid back lifestyle, Spain is a favorite with students and family travelers alike. The weather during the summer is hot but along the coasts may be overcast and cooler. Vast sunflower fields make a great impression from the highways, and Spain is famous for its wine vendors who set up shop right next to the local highway to sell their vintages from the back of a cart. In Spanish culture hospitality reigns supreme and even travelers who may not have a lot of money will often be invited to share the table of a party that is having a good time. If you are visiting Spain, you are undoubtedly coming equipped with a Spanish dictionary or maybe even an electronic Spanish translator. Nine times out of ten these little devices will allow you to get whatever it is that you need; you will make it through Spain in style. Yet if you are planning on visiting some of the outlying or coastal areas, you might be in for a bit of a rude awakening when the Spanish translation found in your dictionary has precious little to do with the words that are beings spoken. A map of Spain will quickly reveal that a Spanish English dictionary in the Pyrenees will need to include Basque, which is the dialect spoken by the inhabitants of this Northern Spanish mountain range. On the other hand, if you are visiting Galicia you will need Spanish to English dictionaries that reflect the Gallego. Of course, everywhere else the language is the Catalan, which is also found in your common English to Spanish, Spanish to English dictionaries. While the Unites States may be more familiar with the Spaniards as a result of the Spanish American war, those who want to learn Spanish will do well to leave behind the States and visit the country. There is more to understanding Spanish than knowing how to use the words. Inflections and body language are two things the English to Spanish dictionary will not be able to teach you and yet they are so crucial when communicating in Spain. So go ahead and plan to spend Christmas in Spain, enjoy the cool air as it brushes across your face when you arrive, and enjoy the sound of the Spain flag flapping in the wind. You will be in for a treat! |
