UK
Everybody knows the UK. Yet did you know that there is more to the UK than meets the eye? For example did you know that the British flag is called the Union Jack and that the country’s motto is actually written in French? Who would have thought! Additionally, did you know that the UK claims the northeastern part of Ireland, commonly referred to as Northern Ireland? Once a powerful empire, the UK is now a driving force in the European Union and as such has a lot of power in the European Community. Yet from the days of stuffy Victorianism, this country has changed with the times and is usually credited with being on the cutting edge of entertainment. If you are an American music buff, you will remember that the British had precious little to do with the British army and everything with genre changing bands that served to revolutionize the musical landscape of the world. |

Of course, as more and more people follow the precepts of secular progressivism in Europe, the UK is once again keeping step, as the magazine “Maxim UK” clearly evidences. As you visit the United Kingdom you are most likely to be greeted by courteous travel agents who will welcome you on behalf of British Airways to the UK. Very often they will offer you maps of Great Britain where several sightseeing opportunities are highlighted to help you plan your stay.
Monuments to the battle of Britain as well as the British Museum are usually on these maps, and you will do well to do the touristy things that are suggested since they are not actually tourist traps but much more cultural icons the country is proud of. With a history as long and diverse as the UK’s, little bragging is needed. For those anglophiles who will not be able to visit the country as often as they would like, online shopping in the UK is made possible by a variety of sites, including eBay and various others. British newspapers are also available online, and so is the UK weather forecast (of course, to truly do the British duty of carrying an umbrella no matter what the UK weather, you will actually have to be there) and listing of jobs in the UK. Even if you cannot travel to the UK just now, why not do some armchair traveling in the glow of your computer screen and peruse the many photos and webcams that will give you the feel of almost being there? |
